Liar, liar, the 2022 edition
It’s summertime, and you’re headed to your favorite beach. On the way to the beach, there’s a fork in the road. One way is the straight path, 10 minutes and you’re at the beach. The other way requires you to drive over unmarked land mines and dodge angry lions.
Which way do you choose?
When you’re being honest with yourself about your law firm, you end up on the straight and easy path.
When you’re lying to yourself, you’re getting eaten by lions.
Grab a bottle of your favorite poison, today we’re talking about the lies you tell yourself.
I’ll throw myself under the bus first and tell you the lies I’ve told myself:
I wanted a team of full time employees
I wanted this business, Wildly Successful Law Firm to be a 7 figure business
I am private and could never have a podcast
I'm sure you're thinking, "but Nermin, why can’t I lie to myself? No one else knows except for me."
I don’t know you personally, but I bet you have been lying to yourself about your current law firm.
Maybe you’re telling yourself you’re ok spending $2,000 a month on that Park Avenue address when you only go into the office once each month and that’s to pick up mail.
Maybe you’re telling yourself you’re just fine billing 150 hours each month, but really, you’re exhausted and you need a time out.
Maybe you’re telling yourself you loooove being a law firm owner and don’t miss being an associate in a practice, having someone else do the client invoicing and generating business.
Maybe I’m off base, or I’m Professor X, reading your mind and the lies that only you know.
But listen, it’s up to you to decide how quickly you get to the beach and what shape you’re in when you get there, you know, alive or not.
